Survivors in Nepal
The American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, Inc., JDC, is a nonprofit, tax-exempt charitable organization described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, contributions to which are deductible for federal income tax.
Right now, JDC is working with local partners in Nepal to provide essential supplies like clean water, hygiene kits and sanitary supplies, and disease outbreak prevention tools to survivors of the deadly flash floods.
Triggered by a major glacier collapse in the Himalayas, the floods killed hundreds, sending a massive surge of water, mud, and debris through one of the country’s most densely populated and economically significant river corridors. More than 1,900 people remain missing, and critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, homes, water systems, and energy facilities, has sustained severe damage.
With proven experience in Nepal, where we supported relief and recovery efforts for five years following the 2015 earthquake through trusted local partners and community-based initiatives, JDC can reach vulnerable populations in hard-to-access mountain communities in these critical days of early recovery.
